Description

We sold this to the previous owner some 40 years ago, and are now selling it again as part of his extensive collection of Indian Wars accoutrements.
The box is in overall good condition and has been modified ca. 1868 to carry metallic cartridges. Implement pouch was first removed. The front was then unstitched below a horizontal cut 1/3 distance from the top edge. This remaining "strip" holds a wooden block bored top and bottom with 20 holes each side.
We fortunately found the original block (described and measured in the previous collector's inventory) in another storage crate so are glad we got them back together!   It does slide in, but is tight so we are not going to put it back in place.
The box and block is the Chillingsworth modification and ca. 1867-68 for the earlly 50-70 trapdoor rifle.
