Description

Post US Civil War Model 1860 Staff & Field Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso is marked "Horstmann" over "Philadelphia" and on the reverse is an "H" inside a shield. The guard, grip, and pommel cap all move a tiny bit if you force them, otherwise they are tight. The grip shows little wear and is 99% complete. The twisted wire and both strands of straight wire are complete. The fixed clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and on the folding side it has a Pennsylvania keystone with "1900" inside it, there is also a laurel wreath and crossed swords. The fixed clamshell has a slight bend and the knuckleguard is also bent. The etched blade is straight, a few very minor nicks that you can feel but cannot see, unsharpened but the tip is a little sharp, has an even patina, some age spots on the lower half towards the tip with very light pitting and minor surface rust on the last 3 1/2". The scabbard is solid with three dents, the throat has a few nicks, it is very tight going on and taking off at the last 1/2" by the ricasso. The washer is intact. Length of the blade measures 29 1/2" (5/8" wide x 3/16" thick), length of the sword is 36 1/8", and overall in the scabbard it is 37 7/8".
