RARE: Indian War Era US Army Infantry M1874 Leather Palmer Brace Strap Assembly - Marked: Rock Island Arsenal - Original - Excellent Condition
Up for sale is a RARE Indian War Era US Army Infantry M1874 Leather Palmer Brace Strap Assembly.  The leather is soft and supple.  NO rips or tears in the leather.  There are surface cracks on the leather straps.  The strap assembly has the Rock Island Arsenal markings with the inspector initials.  The markings are clear and easy to read.  The Palmer Brace System was an early attempt to standarize the infantry man's load bearing equipment.  It was used to hold two McKeever Cartridge Boxes and other infantry equipment.  The brace was complicated and difficult to use.  It was soon replaced in the early 1880's.  The last photo, shows an illustration, from a reference box,
with the Palmer Brace System in use.
This is a very hard to find Indian War Era cartridge box.  It would makes a welcomed addition to any Collection.
